the daily reach-around

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/download/148865-pitchforktv-ponytail-live-on-add-part-1. I'm at work so I can't check this out, but Ponytail are insane live. This may well be a very wierd video. The thing about Ponytail is that you really have to be in their world to get them live; that level of joy stops being expressible in terms of words and pop references and needs to just be felt. So they really really benefit from have great suport acts (for example nic isn't a fan 'cause she just gets annoyed by vocalist Molly Siegel). But they're still amazing, and playing Dublin in march with the amazing Adebesi Shank as support.

speaking of Adebesi Shank; http://www.nialler9.com/2009/02/02/free-passes-to-this-town-needs-guns-adebisi-shank-asiwyfa/

http://www.state.ie/blog/mogwai-to-play-3-night-dublin-residency/ I haven't seen Mogwai since their Happy Songs For Happy People tour ... two weeks before I could hear again ... The thing is that last fri. aside I've been pretty unhappy with the volume levels at every gig I've been to starting with Tom Waits in the ratceller. This is obviously not a sound engineering issue as the quality has been top notch. But when I go to a gig, well at least from a band I expect to be loud I don't want to be able to hear the annoying Irish punters at the gig. There will only be the music, and me and my balls vibrating from the low end. I go to gigs for an experience, not a performance, although performance does play a huge part; it is usually just about getting the crowd involved - seeing Amanda Palmer in a couple of weeks may change that opinion.

http://unarocks.blogspot.com/2009/01/sad-day-for-irish-music-journalism.html a poignant peice lamenting the physical death of another of Ireland's music institutions. Road, State and now this are have all gone in the past couple of weeks ... sad times for Irish music lovers.

(apologies for the lateness of this post, i was pretty sure i had either dreamt it, or it was a hallucination... nic.)
